Chargers, Mustangs advance in sectional

North Montgomery, the 2A Sectional 37 host, defeated Seeger 12-4 on Thursday. After a slow start, the Charger scored in every inning but the second on their way to the victory.

The fourth inning was huge for the victors. The Chargers plated five runs which included a bases-loaded double by senior Tucker Hinds that scored three runs.

“Tucker has been hitting the ball well this season,” Voorhees said. “We saw their outfielders were playing us short and it worked early. Finally ‘Tuck’ got them with that hit to the fence.”

Charger starting pitcher Talyn Sheldon pitched 6.1 innings and gave up  four runs but only one earned run as the Chargers made three errors behind him. The righty surrendered 10 hits, four runs and stuck out four.

Aiden Ambriz-Cruz pitched the final two outs to complete the game.

Hinds was 3-for-4 on the day and was intentionally walked his last at-bat. Junior Lincoln Heide as the next batter and promptly singled in two runs in the sixth inning.

Heide had two hits in the game. Senior Crew Cole had two hits as did junior Lucky Young with 2-RBI.

North Montgomery (20-8) advances to play Delphi (20-8) in the 3 p.m. Saturday semi-final game. The 1 p.m. Saturday semi-final contest will feature Lafayette Central Catholic (22-6) and Western Boone (15-12).

The championship game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday.

Mustangs bounce Golden Eagles

Fountain Central received good pitching in Thursday’s 1A Riverton Parke Sectional No. 53. Pitchers Ayden Batchelor and Asher Davis gave up one hit each in the game. The also combined for 10 strikeouts.

Davis also starred at his leadoff spot in the lineup. The junior was 3-for-3 and scored two runs. Batchelor had a good day at the plate by going 3-for-4  on the day.

Mustangs Uriah Wildman and Joan Cervantes each added two hits.

Fountain Central (7-14) will play Attica (12-13) at noon Saturday in the sectional semifinals.

The 2:30 p.m. Saturday game is between Riverton Parke (15-12) and Covington (14-10).

The sectional championship game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday.
