North Montgomery is playing their best basketball of the season entering the Class 3A Greencastle Sectional.

And after receiving the first-round bye, no matter who North Montgomery plays in the first semifinal on Friday night, it will be a team they’ve beaten.

The Chargers finished the regular season 12-10, winners of five of their last six games, and will face the Frankfort (6-16) and Greencastle (15-7) winner from Tuesday night.

North Montgomery beat Frankfort 70-59 on Feb. 14, and beat Greencastle 62-54 on Friday night to end the regular season.

“We are constantly getting better,” first-year coach Chad Arnold said. “We are going to use all of next week to just keep getting better. I think they’re confident, and we’ve got guys that are starting to go make plays, and guys know their role.”

Jaron Bradford leads the Chargers with 11 points a game, while Alex Wallace scores 9.9 and Preston Shaw 8.9.

Brody Whitaker leads the Tiger Cubs with 23.3 points per game. He is the leading scorer in the sectional field. Frankfort, who is led by Trey Frazier’s 14 points per game, has the worst record of any team in the sectional, but Arnold knows they are just as dangerous as anyone.

“We have a tough sectional,” he said. “You can look at Frankfort’s record, but they are so hard to guard.”

Arnold is Chargers have a chance to compete for their first sectional title since 2009 after just completing their first winning regular season since 2016.

“I think we have a confident team and have a good shot at this,” he said. “We’ve got to just keep executing and keep getting better.”

On the other side of the bracket Crawfordsville (12-10) plays Tri-West (9-13) on Wednesday night at 6, while Danville (19-4) plays Monrovia (18-5) at 7:30 p.m.
