Charles Ray Bemis, 82, of Rockville passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, in his residence.

He retired from RR Donnelley and Sons in Crawfordsville serving as a shipping supervisor and later working in logistics with 43 years of service.

He was born July 3, 1938, at Carbon, Indiana, to the late Lenny Lincoln Bemis and Mildred White Bemis.

Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Sandra Forrest Bemis, whom he married April 15, 1961, at Rockville; son Charles Bradley Bemis of Atlanta, Georgia; two daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Tom) Bumgardner of Zionsville and Bethany Britt (Norm) Lowery of Terre Haute; and four grandchildren, Norman Forrest Lowery, Mary Elizabeth Lowery, Charles Hopper Bumgardner and Thomas Wrigley Bumgardner.

He was preceded in death by brother Lennis Bemis.

He was a 1956 graduate of Rockville High School and Indiana Business College with an accounting degree. He served with the Indiana Army National Guard during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Rockville First United Methodist Church, Parke Masonic Lodge #8, Rockville Rotary Club, Parke County Golf Club Board, Indiana State Senior Golf Association serving as president and director and many years as a board member and charter member of Rockville Elk’s lodge #2471. He also served 28 years as a sports broadcaster for WAXI radio for area basketball, football and baseball games. In 2003, he was named a Sagamore of the Wabash by then Governor Frank O’Bannon.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Gooch Funeral Home, 112 W. Howard St., Rockville. Burial will follow at Memory Garden Cemetery, Rockville. Visitation is from noon until 2 p.m. Saturday at Gooch Funeral Home.
