Church plans 'Oktacofest' bazaar

Posted

St. Bernard Catholic Church is bringing back “Oktacofest” this Saturday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

For more than 100 years, the local church has hosted an annual bazaar. Last year, for the first time, organizers made the bazaar “Oktacofest” themed.

“It was amazing,” said Father Michael Bower. “We had nearly 800 people in attendance. We are going with the same theme again this year. So there is a lot more where that came from.”

The event includes a country kitchen and silent auction as well as German food, street tacos and craft beer from Klooz Brewz in Lebanon. There will be live music and lots of children’s games, including Bingo and piñatas.

Proceeds from this year’s bazaar will go to Montgomery County charities and to the church’s special projects fund. Raffle tickets are available for purchase. Cost is $25 and comes with a free meal ($10 value). First prize is $2,000; second prize is $1,000; third prize is $500; and fourth prize is $250.

There is no admission fee to enter the event, but participants may buy $1 tickets for food. Menu prices are: Bratwurst, $2; hot dog, $1; chicken taco, $3; steak taco, $3; Michelada beer, $5; tap beer, $3; and water or soda, $1.

Beer, T-shirts and items from the country kitchen are also for sale with cash or credit card.

The church is located at 1306 E. Main St.
