Civic band to perform ‘Come Rain or Come Shine’

Posted

The Montgomery County Civic Band returns to the lawn of the Lane Place Museum for Sunday’s “Come Rain or Come Shine” concert

Music slated depicts all types of weather events, including rain, sunshine, snow and storms. Pop standards “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head,” “Come Rain or Come Shine” and “Singin’ in the Rain” will have listeners wanting to grab their umbrellas.

Toss aside those umbrellas because the sun will be shining brightly with Stevie Wonder’s hit song, “You Are the Sunshine of My Life.” “Big Fun in the Sun” livens up the afternoon with lighthearted hits from the 1960s, including “Barbara Ann,” “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini,” “California Dreamin’” and “Wipe Out.”

“Symphonic Highlights from Frozen” will cool the temperature with “Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?” and “Let It Go.” Keeping with the frosty theme, a rendition of “Jingle Bells” will add a humorous sparkle to the program.

With a tongue-in-cheek connection to the weather theme, two of John Philip Sousa’s marches, the familiar “The Thunderer” as well as the more obscure “March of the Mitten Men,” will be performed. “Into the Storm” and “H²Overture” will round out the afternoon with plenty of wind and water sounds.

The band is hoping for a sunny day for the 3 p.m. concert. Audience members are reminded to bring lawn chairs for seating. The concert is free, but donations to support the band are appreciated.
