Community Baby Shower draws crowd

Posted

Franciscan Health, in partnership with Montgomery County Health Department, hosted a community baby shower Sept. 10 at the Montgomery County 4-H Fairgrounds, that brought in 81 families.

These families were currently expecting or had given birth within one year of the event date.

The goal of the event was to reach out to new and expecting families and to provide them with education, connections to community resources and a baby shower gift. The baby shower featured 21 community partners.

“We know that many women never experience a baby shower, and this event allowed these families to receive education on important topics like safe sleep, car seat safety and postpartum depression and walk away with needed items for their children,” said Tristan Kirby, director Franciscan Health Community Education.

The Franciscan Health Foundation, supported by generous donations from local businesses and community members, provided each family with a baby shower gift. These gifts included items needed for growing families like portable cribs, high-chairs, strollers and video baby monitors, to name a few. Diapers and wipes were also distributed to all participants.

One mother was especially grateful.

“I just wanted to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped put the baby shower on,” Layla Isenberg said. “I am glad I was able to go and talk to so many people in the community and have them answer some questions I had before having my baby. Also, a big thank you for the gifts that were donated. They will definitely help my family out and many others.”
