County school districts announce registration information

Registration for the 2020-21 school year will soon be underway for all Montgomery County students.

North Montgomery, Southmont and Crawfordsville have each updated typical registration procedures in the midst of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Both in-person and online registration will be available in specific periods of late July.

Information is available in full through each district website (www.cville.k12.in.us, www.southmont.k12.in.us and www.nm.k12.us), as well as calendars and staff directories for those with questions.

North Montgomery

New student, in-person registration will be held July 28 at North Montgomery High School. Families must call 765-359-2112, ext 0, to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins will not be permitted. Appointments may be made in advance beginning Wednesday.

Those arriving for registration should enter Door 1 (the main entrance) on the east side of the building. Attendance will be limited to only enrolling students and a parent/guardian. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available.

Online registration may be completed via computer (cell phone completion is not recommended) beginning July 24 and must be completed by 4 p.m. July 28.

Families living outside the district who are interested in transferring should contact the appropriate school directly for information and requirements.

The following documentation will be required for enrollment of all students:

• Child’s birth certificate

• Immunization records

• Proof of identity documents (driver’s license or state ID card, permanent resident card, employment authorization card, passport or passport card, original certified copy of birth certificate or consular report of birth abroad)

• Proof of residency documents (with parent or guardian’s name and an address within the boundaries of the district)

• Partial proof of residency documents are only accepted in extreme circumstances. Residency procedures do not apply to homeless students.

Parents or guardians also will be required to provide at least one of the following documentation:

• Utility bill (within 30 days of enrollment date)

• Residential mortgage, lease, deed or contract

• Guardianship documents (if applicable)

• Court-ordered guardianship documents

• Court-ordered custody documents

• Court-ordered restraint documents

Southmont

New students, including kindergarteners, may visit Southmont High School from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31. Required documents will need to be brought when registering a student.

Returning students may register their child in one of two ways:

• PowerSchool Parent Portal, July 13 (online)

• On-site registration 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 31 at Southmont High School

All Southmont students, including those participating in distance learning, will need to register.

Textbook rental fees were also included in Southmont’s announcements and are dependent on the age of the student: Kindergarten, $104.22; first grade, $116.06; second, $126.90; third, $125.12; fourth, $136.74; and fifth, $138.46. Junior and senior high rental fees are dependent on the student’s class schedule.

Financial assistance also is available. Forms may be completed in the financial assistance portion of the district website at www.southmontschools.org/financial-assistance.

Crawfordsville

Important dates released by the Crawfordsville district are as follows:

• Willson Preschool: 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. July 27-31

• Hose Elementary: 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1-3 p.m. July 27-31

• Nicholson Elementary: 8-11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. July 27-31

• Hoover Elementary: 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. July 27-31

• Crawfordsville Middle School, 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. July 27-31

• Crawfordsville High School, 8 a.m.to noon and 1-4 p.m. July 21-22

Other important dates include sixth-grade orientation (1-2:30 p.m. July 29-30 and 9-11 a.m. July 31), access to lockers (9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. July 29-30), ninth-grade orientation (9 a.m. to noon July 31), open lab for registration at CMS (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Friday and July 27-31) and ESL registration at CMS (1-5 p.m. Wednesday).
