C’ville school board approves trips, staff changes

School trips and personnel changes were considered Tuesday by members of the Crawfordsville School Board.

The board approved a trip for the Crawfordsville High School choir to visit New York City on April 18-22, 2024. The trip is optional for members and fundraisers are being planned to help cover the cost of the excursion. A professional travel service will be used to coordinate the trip.

The board also approved a Feb. 8-11 trip to Orlando, Florida for the CHS Dance Team. Members will participate in a national competition there. Fundraisers will be offered to help members offset the cost of the trip.

In personnel matters, the board approved the employment of Han Thai Truong, CHS math teacher; Hannah Ponto, Hose special education teacher; Leah Sizemore, Hose teachers aide; Kim Scanlon, CMS administrative assistant; Amanda Ellenberger, CHS art teacher; Sonna Schafer, Nicholson principal; Jennifer Hollandback, CHS French teacher; Joe Ferguson, CMS social studies teacher and CHS girls varsity basketball coach; and Alexa Quinton, CMS special education teacher.

The board also accepted the resignations of Sandra Castilla, Nicholson receptionist; Renee Gillum, P&T receptionist; Alexis Rogers, CHS Spanish teacher; Amber Jackson, Willson teachers aide; Paul Thomas, CHS life skills teachers aide; and Dammaris Chaves, CMS secretary.

The board accepted the retirements of Heidi Shultz, CHS math teacher; Larie Hartley, Willson teachers aide; Sharon McLean, CMS social studies teacher; and Lisa Fisher, Nicholson second grade teacher.

Learned of the change of position for Craig Carrell from CHS assistant to CHS math teacher and Lisa Gobel from aide at Willson to administrative assistant at the transportation office.

In other business, the board:

• Conducted a public hearing on the proposed superintendent contract. No comments were made. The board will vote on the contract at its next meeting.

• Agreed to renew the food service management contract with Chartwells.

• Learned graduation ceremonies will be conducted at 7 p.m. June 2.
