Earth Day kits available for youth

Posted

Originating in 1970, Earth Day was developed as a way to communicate emerging environmental consciousness and bring to the forefront, environmental concerns. It is annually celebrated on April 22 and engages more than 190 countries and 1 billion individuals. Earth Day was, and still is, a collaborative effort to address common environmental issues and concerns that groups were once working individually to combat. In 2020, Earth Day celebrated its 50th anniversary. Even after all of these years, Earth Day is still a day of action for all ages in an effort to change “human behavior and create global, national and local policy changes.”

In an effort to join the 1 billion individuals who take action in their community to celebrate Earth Day, the Purdue Extension office will be offering Earth Day Kits to youth currently in kindergarten through fifth grade. Kits will include at least five activities and supplies that help youth learn about and celebrate Earth Day. The kit has activities centered around environmental science, recycling and more. The kit also has ideas for youth to take part in multiple citizen science projects that occur across the U.S.

Earth Day Kits are $15 and one kit serves one youth. Kits must be paid for prior to picking them up. The office accepts cash or check only. Checks can be made payable to Purdue Extension. To register, visit https://bit.ly/EDkits2021 and youth must be registered by April 7.

Kits will be available for pick up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 12-16 at the Montgomery County Extension office, 400 Parke Ave., Crawfordsville. For more information about the Earth Day Kits or general 4-H questions, call 765-364-6363 or email asweet@purdue.edu
