Elsie Diane Cooper Smith, 70, of Veedersburg, passed away unexpectedly at 8:02 p.m. Oct. 27, 2020, in the emergency room of Ascension St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital.

Elsie was born June 21, 1950. daughter of the late Nelson and Doris Shonkwiler Cooper.

Elsie was a 1968 graduate of Attica High School and a lifetime Fountain County resident.  Elsie had a kind loving heart and great personality, which served her well as she worked many years as a caregiver for families in the Fountain County community. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Veedersburg and attended Wednesday evening Bible study.

Her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren were her life! She never met a stranger and had a wonderful bubbly personality. For years she had assisted with the annual Turkey Trot in Attica. On Monday, Thursday and Saturday evenings she and Chuck were regular fixtures at Highway 341 Café and Opera House.

Surviving are: daughter Tammy Brown of rural Waynetown; son Terry (Tracy) Wade of Williamsport; grandchildren, Kelton and Trey Brown, Terron Wade and Lindsey (Caleb) Winger; and great-grandchildren, Houston and Henley Winger. Also surviving are her long-time companion Charles E. “Chuck” Baker of Williamsport and Dick Shonkwiler of Attica, who was raised in the Cooper home.

She was preceded by her parents and sister Penny McClure.

Visitation hours are 4-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 at Family and Friends Funeral Home of Wingate. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 at the funeral home, with Pastor Garland Pannell officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Attica.
