 EMA to accept donations for Kentucky tornado victims

Montgomery County Emergency Management Agency is partnering with Crossroads Church Pastor Mark Roberts, the Crawfordsville Fraternal Order of Police, Baldwin Memorial Lodge #90, Smith Trucking and Crawfordsville Fire Local 4143 to collect essential donations for Kentucky residents who were impacted by the deadly tornado that swept across the state last Friday.

“In communities like Crawfordsville and Montgomery County many think alike, especially those who are used to responding to disaster,” said Shari Harrington, EMA Director. “I received calls from Linden United Methodist, Crossroads Church, Russ Keller with CPD and many others asking how they can help those in need, and we decided these essential items collection will enable us to achieve the most impact and good for the community most effected by the tornadoes.”

According to EMA, priority donation items include: generators, extension cords, gas cans, flashlights and headlamps and batteries.

However, the agency will also be taking in smaller donation items. Those items include: blankets, pillows, baby wipes, powered baby formulas, all sized diapers and disposable pull-ups, baby bottles, towels and wash clothes, essential toiletries, plastic ware, all sizes of socks, all sizes of gloves, toboggans and winter weather gear, hand warmers, large trash cans and large trash bags.

Shelf-stable, easy to open perishables will be accepted, including: bread, peanut butter, snack crackers, fruit, applesauce and pudding cups, packaged breakfast bars, Kool-Aid and lemonade mix and snack-sized chip bags.

This is a drive through drop off, please follow signage to drop off. Donations will be accepted by EMA 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2-4 p.m. Sunday at 1201 Elmore St., Crawfordsville. No homemade goods, clothing, furniture, electronics or any donation item that we not previously stated in the above lists will be accepted at the donation site.
