Eric has been on the waiting list since January and is excited to have a mentor. He is 9 years old and lives with his mom and has no other siblings in the home. His mom really wants him to have a mentor and has been calling each month to see if there is a volunteer with whom he can be matched. She wants him to have a mentor so he can be more active and get involved in things going on in the community. Eric’s mom describes him as easy going, respectful, smart and sensitive. He does well in school and likes Legos and action figures.

Eric thinks school is great and his favorite subjects are art and computer class. In his free time, he likes to write, draw pictures, play board games, do puzzles and ride his bike. He also likes hiking, walking, going to parks, swimming, baking and cooking. When he grows up he hopes to be a teacher. If he could do anything on a day off, he would like to shop for a plushy Mario, go to eat at the China Buffet. He says he has been to the movies one time but would love to go again. He has never been bowling, but would like to try that someday.

Jill Hampton, program manager of the JUMP program said, “Eric is a great kid. His mom describes him as shy at first but he was very open and talkative with me. He is very smart and just a sweet kid. I think he would be fun to mentor and ready to try new things.”

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, things have changed radically and now more than ever kids need that one on one time with an adult who can keep them active and involved in positive activities. If you want to mentor a child like Eric, contact Hampton at 765-362-0694, ext. 103, or email jill@mcysb.org. For just a few hours a month, you can absolutely change the life of a child.
