Eutslers donate hymnal collection

Posted

Purdue University Assistant Professor of Bands Dr. Jon Sweet received a collection of 82 hymnals and hymnody resources from Linden residents Therese and Mark Eutsler at a recent Purdue Bands and Orchestra Awards Banquet.

The collection includes hymnals published between 1841 and 2017 from several faith, communities, religions, and traditions — African Methodist Episcopal, Baptist, Catholic, Church of God, Evangelical United Brethren, Lutheran, Methodist, Nazarene, Pentecostal, Presbyterian and United Methodist and in several genres — camp, crusade, country and western gospel, gospel songs, pew and singspiration.

Sweet’s research interests include American hymns and hymnody. He has designed award-winning marching band shows and appeared as guest conductor and clinician for high school, college and honor concert and marching bands throughout the United States. He is the newly named Washington State University Director of Athletic Bands.

Materials in the collection have been used by Therese, as an organist, and Mark, as a cantor/worship leader and hymn arranger, and were among assets of the Music Arrangement Trust of which they are trustees.
