VOLLEYBALL

Potential for a big year

Key loss: Bryleigh McTagertt

Returning players: Seniors Aubrey Ashwill, Savanna Bowers; juniors Patience Bixler, Chloe Ayers

New players: Cadence White and Kendyl Nolan

Keys to success: The keys for success for our volleyball team this season will be teamwork, communication, and a positive attitude. We need to put the team before ourselves, support one another, and trust our teammates on and off the court. Every practice should be approached with focus, energy, and a willingness to improve.

We have some younger players in key positions this year and we’re really looking forward to seeing what they can accomplish this season.

Coach: Janelle Ashwill

FOOTBALL

Buying into new program

Key losses: Noah Dodson, John Carver, Nolan Acton, JD Allen, Spencer Krout, Uriah Wildman and Tyler Wemer

Returning players: Seniors Ayden Batchelor, Dakoda Willoughby, Asher Davis, Houston Finley; juniors Colby Golia, Keyton Beard, Carson Kirkpatrick

Newcomers : Freshman Drew Foxworthy (QB/LB), Keygan Beard (WR/DB), Brody Miller (LB), Grady Allen (RB/LB), Easton Batchelor (OL/DL); sophomore Aiden Dawson (OL/DL); senior Paul Adams, (WR/DB)

Keys for success : The keys to success for us this year will be establishing the run game, winning the turnover battle, and playing disciplined football. We have to be physical up front on both sides of the ball and take care of the football. If we can consistently do those things, I think we’ll put ourselves in a good position to be successful each Friday night.

We are excited to get the season rolling. This team has put in a tremendous amount of work together this summer. They have pushed themselves harder than they probably ever thought they could, and I’ve been proud of the way they’ve responded.

Coach: Jacob Earl

CROSS COUNTRY

Ready to run

Returning runners: Juniors Lucas Kirkpatrick, Hayley Kler, Katelynn Holt; sophomore Andrew Froedge

New runners: Zoe Wildman, Ana Maltsberger, Parker Maltsberger, Lacy Newlin

Key for success: Keep working to improve personal best times. We would like to recruit more kids as we currently only have three boys and five girls.

Coach: Shannon Hoagland

TENNIS

Consistency key

Top returning players: Senior Ayden Batchelor, earned all WRC honors last year; junior Hayden Hargrave, played No. 2 singles; senior Eli Sowder, played No. 3 singles; junior Aiden Blankenship, played No. 1 doubles; sophomore David Current and senior Jerimiah Morris, both earned varsity letters last season

New athletes: Senior William Armstrong and freshman Preston Coakle

Keys for success: We are going to have to find a way to be more consistent from both the baseline and at the net. Last season, we lost several times 3-2, so we are also going to have to learn to capitalize on key points within each match.

Coach: Chris Webb

GOLF

Small team with big dreams

Fountain Central has two golfers this year. Senior Bella Bacon and sophomore Lillian Gregory will compete this season as individuals. Bacon is four-year player with previous WRC and Bi-County medals. She had a solid season last year scoring a PR of 101 in sectional. As a freshman last year, Gregory improved throughout the year. Her sold drives and natural ability to hit the ball led to early success. With fine tuning she could in the running for a WRC and Bi-Co placement this year.

We only have two players and while we can’t compete as a team individually I see the girls scoring lower than ever. They have worked hard during the summer and are tuned in to have a great season. Approaching greens with a purpose has been our focus this year to limit unnecessary strokes inside of 50 yards.

Coach: Meaghan Doss
