President Karen Cook called the meeting to order at 11 a.m. in the social hall of St. John’s Church. She encouraged those present to sign up for the June 7 picnic and plant auction held at Milligan Park at the North shelter. Plant lablels for the auction were distributed.

Karen thanked the committee of Belinda Grimble, Dee Frazee and Meribeth Kussmaul for today’s luncheon. Cook said a prayer. Members enjoyed a spring salad luncheon of chicken salad, cheese and meat tray with crackers, garden salad including toppings of cheese and bacon, Italian pasta salad, broccoli cauliflower salad, five-cup fruit salad, orange fluff and for dessert custard tarts, and chocolate pudding dirt cups. All of this wonderfully delicious food was catered by Trish Schwabe.

Table decorations were the May baskets made by Flower Lover members to be taken to the Ben Hur Home following the luncheon.

After lunch, Cook opened the business meeting.

A 10-year membership award was presented to Nancy Bowes.

New member Linda Crispin and returning member Laura Hutson were welcomed.

Thirty-three members were present. Each member told of a special past Mother’s Day gift given or received. The minutes from the April meeting were read. Carolyn Fisher was wished a Happy Birthday.

Several members shared their experience of going to Perennials Plus on last months Flower Lovers outing. They felt it was an awesome trip to see 9 state of the art greenhouses that cost over a million dollars each to construct. Members felt it was an amazing experience.

Cook stated that several monetary donations had been presented to Flower Lovers in memory of deceased members Betty Carver and Mary Laube.

Terri Trinkle, coordinator of the downtown planters, Paula Furr and Diane Fairfield, were at the Library gazebo May 7 for members to pick up the summer plants for their downtown pots.

For the June 7, Picnic/Plant Auction at Milligan Park, it was explained that lunch is a pitch-in. Bring a salad or dessert. Drinks and table service are provided by the committee of Schwabe, Sharon Barton, Dianne Lowe and Beth Lowe. Bring labeled plants and any other garden related items to be auctioned.

The Flower Lovers Garden Walk will take from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 25 rain or shine. Tickets are $12 each. Each member is responsible for selling two tickets. The tickets are now on sale in many Crawfordsville locations. The day of the Garden Walk, June 25, the only location to purchase tickets will be the gazebo at the library. There will be a plant sale at the Chadd Garden/Farm. Plants need to be labeled and delivered there June 24.

The Garden Walk ticket was designed by Janet Hook. Denise Ducharme is the chairman of ticket sales. Distribution of tickets to Crawfordsville locations was completed by Jan Horner and Ruby Burkhart.

Furr reported that she has met with Mayor Barton regarding the beautification of downtown Crawfordsville. More information will be forth coming.
