The Flower Lovers Garden Club kicked off its May 1 meeting with a fun trip to The Mash House at Westfork Whiskey Co. in Westfield. Twenty-eight members and one guest, Deb Miller, were present.
President Karen Cook led the business meeting.
Donna Walton thanked members for the get well cards she received.
We are still in need of two volunteers to organize the 2025 Garden Walk and members with April birthdays were honored. Looking ahead to the next meeting on June 5 at Milligan Park, members were reminded to bring plants for the annual sale and flower baskets for local senior care facility. It will be a “pitch in picnic”. Terri Trinkle also updated the group on downtown planter changes, swapping out pansies for red begonias and a silver drape. Pansies can be kept for an extra pop of color if they are still blooming. The goal will to have the new plants in before Mother’s Day.
Extra change and dollars for a brag were collected to be used for the club’s Christmas luncheon at the Country Club in December.
After the meeting and a delicious lunch, everyone posed for a group photo at The Mash House entrance for the club scrapbook. Carolyn Fisher, Belinda Grimble, Dee Frazee and Meribeth Kussmaul were the hostesses and provided drinks and cookies for a light snack while enjoying the gardens.
Then, it was off to Sundown Gardens, a local garden center serving Hamilton County since 1949. Members got a tour of the plants, trees, and shrubs available in addition to the garden center. Everyone enjoyed some shopping with a 15% discount on all purchases. Sundown Gardens also offers landscape design and services. The day wrapped up with a visit to Eagleson Gardens, with some members adding a stop at Perennial Plus on the way home.
