The Aug. 5 meeting of the Flower Lovers Garden was called to order by President Denise Ducharme at 11 a.m. at Milligan Park. The tables were decorated with fresh bouquets of flowers furnished by the hostesses. Hostesses included: Nancy Bowes, Jan Carpenter, Jan Horner and Jan Stout. Thirty two members and four guests enjoyed a pitch-in lunch. Peggy Boyd was welcomed as a returning member and guests were Tyson and Tinsley Wankat, Charlene Carrington and Kristen Collins.
Business items were brief, as members were anxious to get to the annual plant auction.
1. Members were encouraged to get their flower photos to Jan Hook who will be putting together a slide show.
2. Sunshine in a Vase bouquets have been delivered to: Crawfordsville Main Street, Swick’s Catering, Joshua Cup and the Crawfordsville Public Library. Denise shared the new cards that accompany the vases plus new business cards.
3. Kristen Collins, Farmer’s Market Manager, explained that on Aug. 15 the club will be featured at the Farmer’s Market from 8 Am to 12 noon in the non-profit spot. The market is located on the corner next to Pike Place at the corner of Washington and Main. A sign up sheet was passed around for those wishing to volunteer to meet and greet people visiting the market. This will be a great way to share information about the club and find potential members.
4. A sign-up sheet was circulated for the October trip to Beasley’s Orchard and for the next Garden Walk in 2027.
5.Terri Trinkle and Shari Patton explained that the new pot project is still in the works. Terri and her committee will be visiting the pots downtown to see which ones are in need of replacement.
6. At the conclusion of the business meeting the annual plant sale was held. The auction gleaned $517 for the club. Thanks to auctioneers: Belinda Grimble, Terry Trinkle and Teresa Huxhold. Special thanks to everyone who brought plants and or gently used garden items to sell.
The next meeting will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 2 at St. John’s Church. The hostesses are: Teresa Huxhold, Myrna Slinker, Marsha Smith, and Dorothy Fogel . The speaker will be Jamie Smith from Fall Creek Flowers.
