For the Kids

Hargis, Kight step out with heart, humor and love for YSB

Cody Hargis

Cody Hargis is the Assistant Vice President of Retail and Business Development at Hoosier Heartland State Bank and also the pastor at Parkersburg Christian Church. He has resided in Montgomery County his whole life.

When he’s not helping customers or sharing a Sunday message, you’ll likely find him outdoors with his wife, Kandora and their two children, Liam and Lilah, and Oreo — the family’s nine-month-old Bernedoodle. Whether it’s riding their UTV or just soaking up family time, Hargis is all about making memories.

His reaction when he was asked to be a Star was, “Me?! I can’t dance!” when first asked to join Dancing with the Montgomery County Stars. But Hargis quickly said yes — for the kids. And if you happen to hear “Bye, Bye, Bye” blasting through the house, don’t be surprised — he and Liam are probably mid-dance-off.

Hargis thinks the public should come support him and his partner Ashley Kight because, “Supporting youth and families in our community matters.” Hargis and Kight may not be professional dancers, but they’re stepping out with heart, humor and a whole lot of love to raise funds for the Youth Service Bureau. Every donation helps make a difference.

Ashley Kight

Ashley Kight is a first grade teacher at Pleasant Hill Elementary School. She has lived in Montgomery County her whole life.

For fun, she enjoys spending time with her family, reading, exercising, traveling and trying new restaurants.

Her husband David is also a teacher and teaches at Fountain Central High School. They have three children — Will,14, Claire, 9, and Ainsley, 8, who keep them quite busy. They also have two dogs, Grayson and Rizzo and a cat, Maxwell House.

Kight took dance lessons as a child at Steven’s Dance Academy which is now the Crawfordsville Academy of Dance. She was also involved in show choir in junior high and high school.

She decided to participate in the Youth Service Bureau Fundraiser because “I have seen the positive impact the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau has had on my students. The Youth Service Bureau has so many different programs that help support the youth in our community. I am able to serve our kids in the classroom, but I love being able to help raise money for our kids through this event. I absolutely love performing and it’s so fun teaching my partner a dance and to see their excitement as well.”

Kight wants the public to come to this event and support her and Hargis.

“My partner Cody and I both love serving and helping others,” she said. “He says he’s a bit nervous as this is way  out of his comfort zone. That’s my favorite part ... teaching someone that just doesn’t see what I see in them. I love seeing the growth and excitement as we near showtime. This event allows the community to come together for a night out to support the Montgomery County Youth Service Bureau.”
