Inaugural Award

Foundation named Organization of the Year

In its inaugural appearance at the annual Chamber of Commerce dinner and awards ceremony, the Community Organization of the Year award is intended for an area nonprofit which makes significant impacts on the community.

The Montgomery County Community Foundation fit that bill in 2020, Chamber President Tracy Mobley said, being named so Sept. 3 during a ceremony at the Crawfordsville Country Club.

“There were certainly many deserving nominees,” presenter Mobley said. “COVID-19 has pressed our nonprofit organizations and their leaders to be even more creative and resourceful to serve the community than ever before. However, there is one nonprofit organization whose reach impacts all the rest.”

MCCF Executive Director Kelly Taylor and board president Joyce Grimble accepted the award on behalf of the foundation, saying the award does not belong to them.

Rather, it belongs to the community.

“We rely upon many donors that provide us the support so we can do the work that we do,” Taylor said. “Also, I want to thank our board of directors and the community foundation staff. With the work that we do, we could not accomplish our goals without a wonderful board that provides us strategic direction, and our staff that works very hard to put our programs in play.”

Nominees for the award may include public and higher education schools, faith-based organizations, ministries, service organizations or other nonprofits that hold membership with the Chamber.
