Fryin’ fish in Waynetown

Event includes food, carnival, games and entertainment

WAYNETOWN — Fish sandwiches will be served at the Waynetown Fish Fry beginning Thursday and running through Saturday. The annual event is Montgomery County’s longest continuous community festival and will feature food, carnival, games and live entertainment at the Rev. Guy Tremain Park.

Serving is daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Proceeds from sales on Thursday go toward the Waynetown Freedom Festival. The menu consists of fish sandwiches, chicken patty sandwiches, chicken nuggets, hot dogs, french fries, fried onion petals, baked beans, desserts and drinks. The Waynetown Police Department runs the kitchen in the Rusk Shelter during the first day.

The menu on Friday and Saturday consists of fish sandwiches, hot dogs, homemade salads, baked beans, homemade desserts and drinks. Running the kitchen is the Waynetown Merchants Association with the help of many volunteers.

The Carnival Company LLC will offer 14 rides, carnival games and food.

The carnival will operate from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from noon to 4 p.m. and 5-10 p.m. Saturday.

Three bands will provide live music. On Friday, Kenn Clark and Keller will take the Freedom Stage from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Rock America Band will follow from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.  The Logan Kirby Band will play 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

Meat will be raffled both Friday and Saturday. Friday’s raffle will be for $200 of meat donated by Tolin Farms. On Saturday there will be two halves of beef donated by Sennett Cattle Company.
Processing is included for the beef. Tickets sold on Friday will also be good for Saturday’s drawing.

Sound is provided by Sizzlin’ Sounds.

Vendors will be located on the festival grounds.

There also will be a tractor show 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

Montgomery County Scouts will sponsor a car show from 3-7 p.m. Saturday. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. The fee to register a car or truck is a free-will donation to the scouts. There will be awards, dash plates and door prizes for entrants.

The Fish Fry is organized by the Waynetown Merchants Association which serves the community all year long with activities such as the Easter egg hunt, senior citizen and veterans dinner and Christmas food baskets. The WMA also donates to the Street Festival, Freedom Festival Oktoberfest and Christmas in the Park.

Sponsoring the Fish Fry are the Town of Waynetown, Merchants Association, Blue Gives Back, Waynetown Baptist Church, Waynetown Christian Church, Waynetown Methodist Church, Tolin Farms and Sennett Cattle Company.
