Girls Swimming: Chargers and Mounties see success in season opener

Mounties pick up win over Mavericks

Southmont girls swimming started their season off with a win Tuesday evening as they traveled to McCutcheon for their season opener.

The Mounties came away with a 92-85 win over the Mavericks. Emily Smith took home the win in diving while Faith Allen placed first in the 100 backstroke.

“Overall it was a great team effort,” Southmont coach Jane Coudret said.“We had 14 different swimmers score points for the team.”

Southmont will have a week off before the boys join them next Tuesday for a three-way meet with Danville and Tri-West.

Chargers split with Tigers and Warriors

The North Montgomery girls also competed in their season opener Tuesday with a trip to Danville for a three-way meet with Danville and Greencastle.

The Chargers split the meet by defeating Danville 84-72 and falling to Greencastle 83-77.

Annabel Anderson took home a pair of wins for the Chargers in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

North Montgomery will host Fountain Central on Saturday for their first home meet of the year.
