Hammond selected as Southmont High principal

The Southmont Schools Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Ashley Hammond as Southmont High School principal on Monday.

Hammond comes to Southmont with a wealth of experience, most recently serving as the principal at Fountain Central Jr.-Sr. High School.

“Mrs. Hammond brings so much to the table for our high school,” said Dr. Chad Cripe, Superintendent. “Her administrative experience and special education background, in addition to her passion for instructional leadership and student achievement, make me confident that Mrs. Hammond will work to ensure the success of all students.”

Hammond will begin her new role immediately.

“I am excited to join the Southmont Schools family, and I hope to continue to build a supportive community for our students,” Hammond said. “I can’t wait to get started, and start learning what it means to be a Mountie.”

Hammond has been an educator for more than 15 years, beginning her career as a special education teacher in Terre Haute. Later she became a building-level administrator as assistant principal and then principal at Fountain Central Jr.-Sr. High School. Hammond completed the Indiana New Administrator Leadership Institute and the Indiana Principals Leadership Institute, and has served as the president of Wabash River Conference Principals. She earned her education specialist, master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Indiana State University.

Hammond and her husband, Bryan, have two daughters, Halle, 11, and Harper, 5.
