Athenians pick up road win

Crawfordsville went to Attica and came away with a blowout 80-38 win.

The Athenians led 39-11 at the half, and cruised in the second half over the Red Ramblers.

A trio of Athenians reached double-figures in scoring, led by Jesse Hall’s 19 points. Ty Lynas added 15, and Ziair Morgan added 12, as Crawfordsville connected on 28-of-42 shots from the field.

Crawfordsville is now 2-2 on the season, and travels to West Lafayette on Friday.

Mounties fall at Cloverdale

Southmont’s boys’ basketball team traveled to Cloverdale on Saturday, and after clinging to a 25-23 halftime lead, the Mounties fell to the Clovers 54-47.

Carson Chadd led Southmont with 16 points, while Austin Bowman added 15.

Southmont is now 1-3 on the season, and hosts Danville on Friday.

County wrestling teams compete at WeBo

Crawfordsville, North Montgomery, and Southmont competed against Danville, Frankfort, Lebanon, Tri-West, and Western Boone at Western Boone on Saturday.

Southmont went 4-1 on the day with wins over Danville (60-23), Western Boone (57-14), Lebanon (42-34), Tri-West (76-3), while falling to Frankfort 46-30.

Noah Benge (120), Dillan Lauy (132), Riley Woodall (182), and Collin Martin (195) all went undefeated on the day. Gerald Hutson (126), Ty Welliever (170), and Ethan Himes (Heavyweight) all went 4-1. Kion Cornelius (106) and Clayton Downey (113) both went 3-2.

Crawfordsville went 3-2 on the day, defeating Tri-West (63-19), Western Boone (42-32), and Danville (48-34). The Athenians fell to Frankfort 42-19, and Lebanon 58-16.

Clayton Owens (138) went 5-0 on the day, while Alex Brown (126), and Kalob Brown (Heavyweight) both went 4-1. Keegan Alsman picked up three wins splitting time at 106 and 113. Ethan Conkright (120), Calvin Dittmar (132), and Collin Rusk (152) all went 3-2.

North Montgomery went 3-2 on the day, defeating Western Boone (39-36), Danville (45-28), and Tri-West (58-18). The Chargers fell to Frankfort 43-30, and Lebanon 35-35 (Tiebreaker).

Baydin Hall (120), Dawson McCloud (182), Jacob Braun (195), Drew Webster (220), and Nick Rice (Heavyweight) all went 5-0 on the day for the Chargers. James McClerkin went 4-1 at 126, while Gage Galloway posted a 3-2 record splitting time at 138 and 145.

Chargers split with Red Ramblers

The North Montgomery boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams split with Attica on Saturday. The girls defeated the Red Ramblers 105-49, while the boys fell 80-75.

On the girls side the 200 medley relay team of Mershon, Fedor, Michael, and Clark won with a time of 1:00.35, while the 200 freestyle relay team of Mershon, Coffing, Clark, and Schwabe won in 2:07.93, and the foursome of Fedor, Schwabem Rastrelli, and Michael won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 4:45.9.

Individual winners included Rastrelli in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:42.08. Fedor won the 200 individual medley in 2:56.74, while Mershon won the 50 freestyle in 28.59 seconds. Michael won the 100 butterfly in 1:12.88, while Fedor won the 100 freestyle in 1:08.95. Schwabe won the 500 freestyle in a time of 6:30.82, while Michael swam to a win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:10.16, and Mershon won the 100 breaststroke in 1:30.78.

On the boys side, individual winners for the Chargers included Ervin in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:17.73, while Burget won the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.71.

Athenian tankers compete at Pike

The Crawfordsville boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams traveled to Indianapolis Pike on Saturday for an multi-team invitational.

On the boys side, top performers included the foursome of Evan Chaney, Thristan Callejas, Marshall Horton, and Jack Pendleton, who swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:48.38. Callejas also placed fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:57.73, and fifth in the 100 butterfly in 58.68 seconds, while Hunter Conrad placed seventh in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:21.29.

The relay team of Horton, Callejas, Pendleton, and Ben Brown placed third in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:37.18. Chaney placed seventh in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.64, while Horton was sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.71. Eli Reeves was third in the diving portion with a mark of 137.65.

On the girls side, Alyx Bannon earned a pair of top-eight finishes. The sophomore placed sixth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.35 seconds, while she placed fourth in the 100 freestyle in 59.69 seconds.
