Holiday cheer can be found at CDPL

Did you know nearly every day of the year there is something to celebrate? When looking through December holidays (besides the obvious ones) I came across many that involved baking, in particular baking sweets.

If you’re anything like me, baking sweet goodies to share is a great way to get you and your family in the holiday spirit. Be sure to check out “Holiday Cheer: Festive Inspirations for Your Best Season Ever!” (641.5 Hol) and “Baking for the Holidays: 50+ Treats for a Festive Season” (641.5 Kie) for inspiration. If you have littles you’d like to help get involved, pick up “Kids in the Holiday Kitchen: Making, Baking, Giving” (coming soon). The library even has great options for those who may have a gluten allergy. Try “Gluten-Free Baking for the Holidays: 60 Recipes for Traditional Festive Treats” (641.56318 Sau). If you’re feeling crafty, handmade gifts and decorations are so meaningful. Need some inspiration to get started? Check out “Handcrafted Christmas: Ornaments, Decorations, And Cookie Recipes to Make at Home” (745.59412 Wag) and “Handmade for Christmas: Easy Crafts and Creative Ideas for Sewing, Stitching, Papercraft, Knitting, And Crochet” (745.59412 Han). Helping the kids make gifts for their teachers and friends will be a snap.

Be sure to grab some festive music to listen to while you’re busy in the kitchen. One of my favorites is The Best of Pentatonix Christmas (CD 781.723 Pen). New to the library and notable is Now That’s What I Call Music Christmas Classics (CD 781.723 Now). There are tons of other CDs to choose from in our Christmas Collection if these two aren’t quite for you!

If you manage to save any of your made-from-scratch treats for your own house, snuggle up for a movie night with a Christmas classic like Miracle on 34th Street (DVD FIC Mir) or How the Grinch Stole Christmas (DVD FIC Dr). The Santa Clause (DVD FIC San) movies with Tim Allen have always been a favorite of mine. Prefer a book to a movie? We’ve got you covered. His Promise: An Amish Christmas in Hart County (FIC Gra) or Christmas at Barncastle Inn: Four-In-One Collection (FIC Chr) might be to your liking. A little Christmas murder or suspense such as Cold Snap by Allison Brennan (FIC Bre) and Shakespeare’s Christmas by Charlaine Harris (FIC Har v.3) are sure to get your blood pumping. Grab a book for the younger set while you’re here as well. “A Christmas Carol” (j FIC Dic) and “Merry Christmas, Mouse!” by Laura Joffe Numeroff (j E Num) are great options.

Whether you prefer baking, movies, music or books we have what you need to help celebrate the season. Come to the library and check our Holiday Cheer displays.
