INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana High School playoffs are set to begin Oct. 23. Teams throughout the state found out Sunday who they will play and where the game will be in the first round of the sectional.

Crawfordsville and North Montgomery will each play in the 3A No. 29 Sectional which includes teams from Montgomery County to Indianapolis. The Chargers were moved up this year to 3A from 2A and have the smallest student enrollment in 3A.

The Oct. 23 games will start at 7 p.m.

The Chargers (3-5) will play host to Indianapolis George Washington (3-5). The game will be the first time the two schools have met on the gridiron.

Crawfordsville (2-6) will travel to former Sagamore Athletic Conference rival Tri-West (6-2).

Other games in Sectional 29 will be Purdue Polytechnic Downtown (7-1) at Western Boone (6-2) and Heritage Christian (0-8) at Speedway (3-5).

Southmont will once again play in 2A Sectional No. 38.

The Mounties (4-4) will entertain Monrovia (3-5) in the first round.

The Mounties have won two of the last three sectionals. Last year Southmont advanced to the regional championship before bowing out to eventual 2A champion Andrean.

The sectional includes two teams who won state championships last season, Cascade in 3A and South Putnam in 1A. South Putnam moved up to 2A due to the IHSAA Success Factor rule. Cascade moved down to 2A due to smaller student enrollment. The is the first time in the history of the state tournament two defending champions from different classes will play each other as South Putnam will travel to Cascade for the first round contest.

Other Sectional 38 first round games will be West Vigo (0-9) at North Putnam (5-3) and Greencastle (3-5) at South Vermillion (4-4).

In the 1A Sectional No. 47, Fountain Central (3-5) will travel to Cloverdale (6-2).

The Mustangs have had a series of injuries but appear to be close to full strength.

The sectional contains No. 1 ranked Riverton Parke (8-0) who will play at home against North Vermillion.

Other games are North Central (4-4) at Parke Heritage (5-3) and Fountain County rivals Covington (2-6) at Attica (1-7).

The last regular season games for Indiana high schools will be Friday.
