The July meeting of the Indiana Business and Professional Women’s Group of Crawfordsville found it more than fitting for the 250th anniversary of our country to invite our speaker Mike Spencer and four local women veterans to join us.
Spencer is the 3rd Vice Commander and dedicated Honor Guard leader at the Byron Cox American Legion Post 72 in Crawfordsville, where he frequently coordinates and participates in local Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and community remembrance ceremonies alongside the V.F.W. He spoke at our meeting and gave us a better understanding of what the Honor Guard does and where they serve in our communities.
Our women veterans were: Anna Conwell, Indiana Guard Reservist, Betty Austin, Air Force nurse that was stationed in New Mexico, Ruth Hallett, Army Veteran, and Bonita Clement US Army and currently Commander for our local American Legion. They each told us a bit about their experiences in the military.
Becky Hankins, owner of the Hairloom Salon, was our committee chair and decked out the tables accordingly with plenty of red, white and blue.
The meeting was held at the Crawfordsville library and progressed to discussing our upcoming goals and events mostly gearing up for the eighth grade Reality Store in October. We will be needing volunteers and community support so be sure to answer the call.
We also received two beautiful thank you cards from our Senior Girls $500 Education Award winners.
We meet the first Tuesday of each month and our next meeting will be Aug. 4 at the library. Informal networking begins at 5:30 p.m. and the programand business meeting begins at 6 p.m. No reservation needed.
