James E. Gobble (Jim), 88, of Pendleton passed peacefully and found his home in heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 10. 2023.

Jim was born Oct. 5, 1935, at Norton, Virginia. Jim moved with this family to Indianapolis in 1950. Jim was a 1954 graduate and three-year basketball letterman at Manual High School in Indianapolis.

Jim and his wife Charlene (Miller) Gobble were married Oct. 9, 1959, and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on the Monday before his passing.

Jim and Charlene were residents of the Crawfordsville community for more than 50 years prior to moving to Pendleton in 2022. Jim served in many roles during his 47-year career at Inland Container and Jim moved his family to Crawfordsville in 1972 to serve as the Human Resources Manager at the newly opened Inland Container facility.

Jim was a long-time attendee of the First Baptist Church, a member of the local Kiwanis Club and an avid basketball and tennis player. Jim also was a proud father and supported his children’s sporting events at Crawfordsville High School.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Gobble; his mother, Mary Belle (Johnson) Gobble; his brother, Bill Gobble; his sister, Betty DeBusk; and an infant daughter.

Jim is survived by his wife Charlene (Miller) Gobble, Pendleton; sister Carolyn Blazzard, Lewiston, Idaho; and two children, Mark Gobble and wife Carina, Seattle, Washington, and Susan (Gobble) Julian and her husband Ted, Pendleton. Jim is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at First Baptist Church, Crawfordsville. A fellowship dinner will be served for guests immediately following the service.
