John Andrew Horner, 24, of Advance passed away Oct. 18, 2023, at Indianapolis.

John was born Jan. 21, 1999, at Brunswick, Georgia, the son of James “Jamie” H. Horner and Julie Ann (Wilson) Wood.

John attended Hilton Head Preparatory School and Crawfordsville High School; after high school, attended The University of Alabama, and also served his country in the US Navy. While in the Navy he worked as a cook, which he enjoyed very much; he also enjoyed scuba diving and spearfishing. He had started his own T-Shirt business named Horner Head whose main character was a Hammerhead Shark named Mo. His true love was the ocean. His favorite place was Key West and the Florida Keys which also happens to be where he wished for his final resting place to be.

He was loved by everyone who knew him, was a very kind and trusting soul, and he leaves behind many great friends and family members who will miss him dearly.

Surviving family include: mother Julie Ann (Wilson) Wood, Advance; father James H. (Paula) Horner, South Carolina; brother Roby Horner; sister Morgan Bengel, Maryland; grandparents, James Wilson, Advance, and Juelleen Avery, Crawfordsville; three uncles, James (Christine) Wilson, Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Jamie Wilson, Michigan and John (Jodi) Horner, Alabama; and aunt Deeds Horner, Georgia.

He is preceded in death by grandparents, John Horner Jr. and Ann (Lou) Granados; great-grandparents, Roy E. (Betsy) Wilson, Clifford Cook and JoAnn (Juewel) Peffly.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene, 453 State Road 341, Hillsboro. A celebration of John’s life will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with Pastor Greg McDonald officiating.
