George W High, age 90, passed away April 27, 2024, with family by his side.

George was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Montgomery County, to Cecil and Zona (Eackle) High.

George married Bev Ward (the love of his life) on Nov. 8, 1957, in Montgomery County.

George served in the Army for three years, during the Korean War, retired from Raybestos after 30 years, did maintenance at numerous apartment complexes in the Montgomery County area, was hired and fired by his brother, Bob High, many times, while painting and doing drywall, and he was also a yellow jacket at the Indy 500 for three years.

He loved to mushroom hunt, attend and participate in car shows, avid sports fan (especially IU), play card (was an expert cheater/sore loser, but still couldn’t win against Betty Wilson), and cared for and loved his family deeply.

He was a member of American Legion Post 72, Smartsburg Christian Church, and he also bowled a 300 game in bowling during a league tournament on Feb. 19, 1967.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years; son Roger (Joni) High of Virginia Beach, Virginia; daughter Robin Cooper of Indianapolis; son Rodney (Belinda) High of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Alyse, Madeline, Alec and Ryan High, Whitney (Luke) Wolsifer, Jessica Tribble and Aaron (Lisa) and Kashawndra Cooper; and great-grandchildren, Alexa, Javin and Ellison Cooper.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cecil, Thomas, Robert and Ronnie High; and sisters, Buena (Boo) Cunningham, Nancy High, Mickey Widger and Maxine Roche.

Graveside service with military rites will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18 at Mace Cemetery, 5258 E. U.S. 136, Crawfordsville.
