Jon R. Jones, 72, of Crawfordsville passed away peaceably at 2 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023.
Jon was born March 28, 1951, at Crawfordsville, to Charles (Dick) and Nora (Nonie) Jones. Jon married his best friend, Julie Proffitt, and the couple had two sons of their own, Jason Israel Jones and Jonathan Berlin Jones.
Jon attended Crawfordsville High School, and spent 28 years at Mid States Wire before becoming self-employed along with his wife at Wabash Music, 203 E. Main St., Crawfordsville. They were working musicians the bulk of their lives, playing out as young teens and continuing though their adult years. It wasn’t uncommon for their band, Remote View, to spend weekends gigging, while running the shop through the week.
As music was the center of Jon’s life, the band produced three albums over the years, with a fourth that remains incomplete. Julie, fellow guitarist and singer-song writer, along with drummer Jon Berlin, bassist Jason Israel and bassist Michael Inglesbe, are striving to get all of their music, including the unfinished fourth album, uploaded to YouTube and Spotify.
Jon’s ashes will be scattered in the woods and waters of Yountsville, along with Julie’s when the time is right.
Jon’s love of music extended to all genres. He had a deep fondness for his students, as he took pleasure in helping others hone their skills; he was an avid teacher, a skilled repairman, and an excellent player. He possessed an acute ear for recording, and chronicled albums for a multitude of musicians across the states. He was a session player, and could make almost any instrument come alive.
He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. His family’s only request is to please help keep his music alive.
