Letter: Wearing a mask a small request

Posted

A recent letter to the editor by Robert McRoberts is appropriately titled; “Reader does not like masks.” Because that is all his letter proves. He simply doesn’t like them. He doesn’t provide empirical evidence. He doesn’t mention the dead.

He doesn’t argue for the efficacy of masks. He simply wants to spout frustration for a situation he clearly doesn’t understand. The rest of the world has proven that masks and social distancing work. His anecdotal story of working in a hot factory provides no comment other than he is not a medical professional.

We are all frustrated by the virus. If you look at where the numbers could lead, and how many more could die, wearing a mask seems like the smallest request to do your part. It is so rare that American civilians are called on to garner personal responsibility for the public good. In that sense, we are failing. It is so tragically American these days to decide for ourselves what the reality of our situation is.

Set down your hubris. Wear a mask.
