LOCAL ROUNDUP: Athenian soccer wins Frankfort Invite, Charger girls soccer opens season with win

Athenians win Cougar volleyball invite

The Crawfordsville volleyball team defeated Riverton Parke (25-9, 25-13), Attica (25-7, 25-5), Cascade (25-15, 25-19), and North Putnam (25-16, 25-16) to win the Cougar Invite on Saturday.

Macy Bruton had 47 kills, 14 digs and four aces, while Shea Williamson had 26 kills and 12 aces. Halle Elliott had 14 digs and Hallie Gayler had 21 kills, Alyx Bannon nine kills, and Olivia Reed 24 digs. Laine Schlicher had 89 assists, Liddy McCarty four kills and Jessica Tribble two assists.

Bruton recorded her 1,000th kill and Schlicher her 1,000th assist during the tournament.

Athenians use dominance to win Hot Dog Invite

The Crawfordsville boys’ soccer team won the Frankfort Hot Dog Invite on Saturday with a pair of blowout wins.

The Athenians beat Caston 9-1 and Frankfort 8-1 to win the invite title.

Athenian, Mountie, Mustang golfers compete in WeBo Invite

The Crawfordsville, Fountain Central, and Southmont girls’ golf teams competed in the Western Boone Invite at Cool Lake Golf Course on Saturday afternoon.

The Mounties placed fifth with a score of 349. Addison Meadows fired an 80, Taylor Grino an 88, Bailey Barker a 90, Macie Shirk a 91 and Stella Snook a 106.

Fountain Central placed 12th with a score of 436. Cassadi Parks fired a personal best 89, while Nola Walls shot 107, Keeling a 116, Hicks a 124, and Parks a 127.

Crawfordsville was 17th with a 457. Sadie Walker shot a 108, Carli Payne 101, Christen Saunders a 121, McKenzie Wilson a 127, and Nancy Blanchard a 135.

Lebanon won the invite with a 322.

Chargers win opener

The North Montgomery girls’ soccer team opened the season with a 5-1 win at South Vermillion on Saturday.

Teegan Bacon led the Chargers with three goals, while Paityn Church and Lydia Dugard each scored. 

North blanked by Wildcats

The North Montgomery boys’ soccer team fell to South Vermillion 6-0 on Saturday.
