LOCAL SPORTS: Mustang baseball and tennis, Athenian tennis, Charger golf, Mountie track all pick up wins

BASEBALL

Mustangs blow by Trojans

Fountain Central baseball beat Wabash River Conference foe Covington 23-4 on Tuesday.

Owen Acton was a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and drove in four runs. Michael Geller had three hits and five RBI. 

SOFTBALL

Mustangs lose nail biter 

Fountain Central was unable to overcome a 5-0 hole in a 7-6 Wabash River Conference loss to Covington on Tuesday. 

Maddie Medley and Shelby Marshjall each had three hits and two RBI in the loss. 

Chargers fall to Hot Dogs

The North Montgomery softball team fell to Sagamore Conference rival Frankfort 18-1 on Tuesday. 

Cascie Keller, Makinze Rominger, and Freeman? Had the lone Charger hits. 

BOYS GOLF

Chargers beat Trojans

The North Montgomery boys’ golf team beat Covington 190-197 on Tuesday.

Hayden Turner led the Chargers with a 44. Alex Chapman carded a 46, while Drew Norman and Haze Kashon each had 50s. Thomas Fritzen fired a 54, while Jacob Hughes and Colin Campbell each shot 62 and Landon Birge a 64. 

Mustangs beat Patriots 

The Fountain Central golf team defeated Seeger 196-203.

Nathan Summers led the Mustangs with a 45, while Jacob Keeling shot a 48.  York shot a 51, while Wesley Jackson carded a 52. Cody Linville had a 54 and  Payne a 59.

Athenians fall in tri-meet

The Crawfordsville boys’ golf team finished third in a triangular meet on Tuesday. The Athenians shot a 196, Lebanon won with a 187 and Tri-West a 193.

Luke Ranard shot a 43, Landon Timmons and Hayden Jeffries each fired 50s, while Braxton Smith shot a 53. Landon Hurt a 56 and Thomas Bowling a 59. 

“We battled some gusty breezes today and overall, I’m not displeased with the results,” Crawfordsville coach Tom Perkins said. “We still need to be better at adapting our games to the weather conditions. Still plenty to clean up, but the effort and desire to get better is there.”

TENNIS

Athenians pick up SAC win

Crawfordsville girls’ tennis team swept Danville on Tuesday night 5-0.

Lauren Hale won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Hannah McLean won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Samantha Rohr won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The duo of Ella Hudson and Cathleen McGrady won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Lilly Klingbeil and Elyse Widmer won 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 2 position.

Mustangs sweep Patriots

Lillie Fishero won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Haley Webb won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Angela Gonzalez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The duo of Paige Scheurich and Emily Jimenez won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while Tyler Bowling and Marylee Muniz won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

Chargers fall to Stars

The North Montgomery girls’ tennis team fell 5-0 to Sagamore Conference rival Western Boone on Tuesday night.

Kaitlyn Greenlee fell 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Sydnee Turner lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Sydney Neideffer 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The duo of Joy Davis and Allison Guard fell 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, while Courtney Engels and Carlie DeSmet lost 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

TRACK AND FIELD

Mounties compete against Stars

The Southmont track and field team competed against Western Boone and Lebanon on Tuesday night.

The Mounties boys 4X800 team won with a time of 9:22. 

DeLorean Mason won the girls’ high jump, while Faith Allen won the girls’ one-mile run in 5:26. Allen also won the two-mile run in 13:14.

Trent Jones won the boys’ 400 meter dash in 51.86 seconds and the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.55 seconds. Dillan Lauy won the long jump, while Mason Cass won the boys’ two-mile run in 11:11. Avery Saunders won the high jump.

The boys’ 4X100 meter relay team of Sam Line, Logan Oppy, Mitton, and Jones won with a time of 3:35.
