Wrestlers compete in duals
All three Montgomery County wrestling teams competed against Sagamore Conference teams on Saturday in a dual format.
Southmont went 2-0 with a 54-27 win over Western Boone and 72-6 win over Danville.
Against the Stars, Trip Ward picked up a win by fall over Gabboe Monsewicz at 138 pounds. Riley Woodall pinned Brant Pitcher at 182 and Ayden Dickerson won by fall over Derringer Emberton at heavyweight.
In the win over the Warriors, Marlin Williams won by a 10-6 decision over Everett Westfall at 120, while Dillan Lauy pinned Hunter Adams at 138. Ward picked up his second fall of the day over Jacob Stoner at 145.
The Mounties dominated the upper weights. Evan Francis pinned Sean Robinson at 160, while Elijah Neal won by a 10-5 decision over Andrew Smith at 170, and Riley Woodall pinned William Jones at 182. Wyatt Woodall pinned Garrettt Hayes at 195 and Zayden Dunn won by fall over Brayden Hahn at 220.
Southmont is 3-0 on the season and will celebrate its seniors on Tuesday at home against North Putnam.
During Crawfordsville’s three matches on Saturday at Lebanon, Ethan Patton posted a perfect 3-0 record.
North Montgomeryy split with Danville and Western Boone.
The Chargers defeated the Warriors 36-24, and fell to the Stars 28-21.
Calin Campbell, Christian Hall, James McClerkin, and Colin Campbell all went 2-0.
Mustang grapplers split duals
The Fountain Central wrestling team hosted South Newton and West Lafayette on Saturday.
The Mustangs fell to the Red Devils 59-12 and defeated the Rebels 33-12.
In the win over South Newton, Waylon Frazee won by a 6-2 decision, while Willie Frazee, Romero, Alexander, and Strawhorn all won by fall.
Athenians pick up win on hardwood
The Crawfordsville girls’ basketball team picked up a 48-28 win over Attica on Saturday.
Kearston Hutchens led the Athenians with 13 points, including 11 in the first half. Olivia Reed added 11, Liddy McCarty 10, and Sheal Williamson had eight points, eight rebounds, and seven steals.
“Really proud of our girls for how they responded today,” Crawfordsville coach Tyler Smith said. “Every aspect of our game was sharper. Shea really set the tone on defense and controlling the offense. Our juniors really played well together on both ends. This is hopefully something we can build on.”
