A Crawfordsville man faces charges in the fondling of a 10-year-old girl on New Year’s Eve.

Calvin Bowling, 62, has been charged in Montgomery Superior Court 2 with felony child molesting and sexual battery, according to court documents. He was arrested Saturday by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant, jail records show.

The alleged incident occurred during a New Year’s party at a Crawfordsville home when Bowling allegedly climbed on top of the girl and tried to remove her clothes before fondling her, according to a probable cause affidavit signed by deputy prosecutor Jacob Moore.

The girl pushed and kicked Bowling away and ran upstairs to tell her mother, according to the charging documents.

Bowling told investigators he didn’t see the girl that evening and had been drinking a lot at the party, the affidavit says. He later canceled a scheduled polygraph test, authorities said.

At the time of his arrest, he was also wanted for failure to appear in a separate criminal recklessness and disorderly case.

Bowling remained held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $3,000 cash bond Monday afternoon. A no-contact order has been filed in the case.
