Marie Clements of Crawfordsville passed away Monday morning, Jan. 25, 2021, with her family at her side. She was 82.

Marie was a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church. She did mission work in Taiwan and Israel. She was a member of the Baptist Women’s Group and was actively involved with the Southern Baptist Convention. She and her husband, Bill, were members of the Indiana Chapter of Campers on Missions, where they traveled the U.S. to help others. She was also a member of BPW and was a former president of the F.O.P. Women’s Auxiliary, among being involved in various other organizations.

Marie attended school at Clarks Hill and graduated from Laramie Township High School in 1957. She started her working career as an office worker for Purdue National Bank, and after her children were in school, she went to work at Carico/Hatfield Furniture Store. She later was employed by INDOT, where she was the office manager in the traffic division. She retired in 2001.

Born Jan. 1, 1939, at Fowler, she was the daughter of Knefel Lyman Goben and Martha Elizabeth Messenger Goben (Robinson). She married William E. “Bill” Clements on July 3, 1958 in Linden. He passed away July 23, 2003.

Marie’s surviving family includes: son Alan (Lori) Clements; daughter Wanda (Jim) Willhite; son David “Clay” Clements; son Scott (Nona) Clements; and adopted Taiwanese daughter, Shawna (Jason) Hammond. Marie was also the best Mimmie ever, to seven grandchildren, Josh, Joe, Summer, Shawn, Christine, Craig and Anna-Marie, along with 16 great-grandchildren. All of whom will forever cherish their memories of her and the love she bestowed upon them.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother Mel Goben.

Services for family and close friends will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Burkhart Funeral Home, led by Pastor Chris Hortin. Private burial will follow at New Richmond Cemetery. Those in attendance are asked to follow all CDC guidelines.

The family extends many thanks to her special friend, Donna Deck, for being by her side, especially this past year, when her family could not, due to COVID.
