NEW MARKET — Southmont Volleyball continues to come away with wins over sectional foes. On Monday the Mounties hosted Cloverdale and made quick work of the visiting Clovers with a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-14, 25-11).

Southmont, who gets back to .500 on th season with a record of now 7-7 remains perfect on the season against sectional opponents as they now have wins over North Putnam, Greencastle, and now Cloverdale.

“The girls are beginning to develop a confidence about themselves that they can go out and beat anybody and that includes anyone we might see in the sectional.” Southmont coach Erin Barry said. “We want to keep improving towards when the sectional rolls around and try to be playing our best at that point. We still have a couple of more teams in our sectional that we’ll see, but our girls are playing well right now.”

In the win Dara Watson had eight kills for the Mounties while Chelsea Veatch added in nine. Taylor Anderson and Veatch each had seven digs, Mallory Mason ended her night with eight and Regan Remley tallied six. The Mounties serving game was on point against the Clovers as Mason led the team with nine aces. Watson added four, Remley and Brady Spencer each had three of their own. Mason ended her stat-sheet stuffing night with 18 assists.

“Serving has been a big thing that we’ve been focusing on,” Barry said. “We want to be aggressive on that front and receiving a nice serve in volleyball can be a very hard thing to do. You can tell that they’ve put the work in practice and it’s nice to come out and see that translate to the games. I don’t have to get them focused while their practicing. They know what the goals are and are ready to get to work every day.”

Southmont will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Lebanon for a Sagamore Conference match with the Tigers.
