Mounties numbers could lead to big season

NEW MARKET — Southmont has the depth to have a strong showing this spring on both the boys and girls side. Coming into this season the boys are led by State qualifier and Indiana State commit, senior Trent Jones. Jones is arguably the fastest runner in the county is the returning 2021 Journal Review Boys Runner of the Year.

The Mounties also have the Girls runner of the year returning for them in junior Faith Allen and are poised and ready to make some noise on both sides.

“Going into the season, we are really excited about the numbers that we have in both the boy’s and girl’s programs,” coach Desson Hannum said. “Trent looks to make another run at qualifying for state and our goals for both teams are to win county, finish in the top portion of the conference, and qualify as many individuals for the Regionals that we can.”

Last season the Mounties placed second on both the boys and girls sides at the county meet while the boys also took home a second place finish at the Conference meet while the girls placed sixth.

Southmont certainly has the depth and talent it needs to have a very successful season.
