New Wabash stadium progressing

The construction of Frank Navarro Field at Little Giant Stadium is progressing along as the weather has turned warm over the last few weeks.

Wabash athletic director Matt Tanney provided an update on Tuesday afternoon via video.

“There is quite a bit of activity going on right now with the new facility,” he said. “We have exterior walls also going up for the bathroom spaces and the concourse area.”

The steel also arrived on Tuesday afternoon and the construction of the new home grandstand is now in full view.

Tanney also said the old turf playing surface has been taken out to make way for a new artificial playing surface.

The scoreboard has also been taken down and will be relocated to the northwestern part of the stadium near the Allen Center.

A new scoreboard in a new location and a new track surface that will be installed later in 2020 will make way for the opportunity for Wabash to host track and field meets in the future.

The Little Giants have not been able to host track and field meets due to the location of the previous scoreboard in the southeastern portion of the field.

The construction project is on schedule and Tanney expects it to be completed this summer.

“A lot of activity and still a lot more to go for this project, but we fully expect that we will be ready for kickoff on September 5, 2020 against Rose Hulman,” he said.
