LINDEN — North Montgomery School Corporation Superintendent Dr. Colleen Moran has tendered her letter of resignation effective June 30, 2026.

The school board accepted the letter at Monday’s regular monthly meeting.

Moran has been the superintendent at North Montgomery since November 2001. She has been involved with education for 35 years with the last 16 years at the helm of NMSC.

Moran said the decision was entirely her own as the board reluctantly accepted her intention.

“This was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made,” Moran said. “But I believe it is time. I think getting some new faces in leadership will be a good thing for North Montgomery.”

Moran has been working with Assistant Superintendent Dr. Anthony Tharp in hopes he will be ready to take over the reins. At Monday’s meeting Tharp was hired as the incoming superintendent effective July 1, 2026.

The board approved a slight increase in school breakfasts and lunches for the next school year. Elementary students will pay $1.55 for breakfast and $2.10 for lunch. Secondary school students will pay $1.55 for breakfast and $2.25 for lunch. Adults will pay $2.35 for breakfast and $3.75 for lunch.

The school will continue to offer reduced meals at all of their schools. Breakfast will be $.30 and lunch will be $.40.

The board approved the elementary sexual education curriculum. The program will be for fourth and fifth grade students, which has been the case for many years in the corporation. The program is accessible for parents to review and parents will retain the right to opt-out their children from the program. The information will be added to the school’s website.

The board approved a resolution to name North Montgomery Middle School a Purple Star School. With the resolution the middle school will be recognized for its extraordinary efforts to honor military veterans.

In other business, the board:

• Accepted the retirement of Sugar Creek Counselor Lore Apple and the resignations of Sommer Elementary fifth grade teacher Taylor Pierce and high school weight training teacher Lincoln Kyle.

• Approved the new hires of Sommer fifth grade teacher Catherine Martin and middle school special education teacher Jeffrey McCoy.

• Approved the school resource agreement with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

• Approved changes to the student handbook and athletic handbook.

• Accepted the corporation insurance renewal in the amount of $332,871 with Liberty Insurance.
