North school board approves salary incentives

Posted

North Montgomery certified personnel were give a new salary incentive at Monday’s school board meeting. A stipend of up to $1,000 can be earned depending on the number of work days missed.

The attendance stipend will be paid the second payroll in June. An employee can earn $1,000 for no more than one day of missed work. Employees who miss two days of work will receive $800. If an employee misses three days, a $650 stipend will be paid. Four absent days will result in a $500 incentive.

Superintendent Dr. Coleen Moran said having licensed teachers in the classroom is better than a substitute. Absences resulting from professional teacher development will not be counted toward missed days.

“We appreciate our substitute teachers, but we want to have our most qualified teachers in the classrooms,” Moran said. “We like investing in our teachers.”

Moran reminded board members they need to be ready to nominate a new secretary in November for the upcoming calendar year.

Pleasant Hill Elementary was highlighted during the meeting. Fifth-grader Ethan King, son of Rob and Amy King, was the honorary board member for the evening.

Board members heard a presentation about two fourth grade projects, Growing Great Things and Chef University.

Growing Great Things involves fourth grade students planting a garden and Chef University is a program that teaches cooking. Purdue Extension representatives work beside the students from pre-determined recipes designed for the program.

The board approved the following coaching positions: Nick Johnson, eighth grade boys basketball; David Dark, Kyle Thompson and Lucas Galloway, seventh grade boys basketball; and Josh Jones, sixth grade boys basketball assistant. Brandon Hutson was approved as high school boy’s assistant basketball and Scott Yeager was approved as high school volunteer boy’s golf.

Business Director Jim McBee reported bids will be generated for the high school locker room project and the middle school roof.

In other business, the board approved:

• The acceptance of a $3,000 donation for gymnastics equipment from NOTC.

• The acceptance of a $1,000 donation to the high school robotics club from NUCOR.

• The acceptance of a $5,033 donation to the Pleasant Hill Library from 6.25 Foundation.
