LINDEN — For just over one quarter the Twin Lakes at North Montgomery game looked like a track meet. Both teams were going up and down the field. The bad news was that Twin Lakes never slowed down and the Chargers wore down losing 49-18.
Twin Lakes didn’t take long to take the lead. The Indians scored on a 54-yard pass play on the first play of the game to take a 7-0 lead 12 seconds into the game.
Taking the ensuing kickoff to their own 41-yard line. A quick drive resulted in a Dakota Glasson 4-yard rushing touchdown. A missed 2-point conversion kept the score at 7-6.
With the score 12-6 in favor of Twin Lakes, a Charger interception by Caden Eller gave the ball back North. The drive end with a quarterback Lincoln Heide finding Clayton Brown in the endzone from seven yards out. Another missed conversion made the score 14-12 in favor of Twin Lakes.
After Twin Lakes fumbled the kickoff, the Chargers quickly scored again to take an 18-14 lead. The score was Heide’s second scoring pass when he found Glasson on an 8-yard strike.
Twin Lakes went on to score the next 35 points with their high-powered offensive attack. The Indians scored five times with quick plays each covering more than 50 yards.
The defensive effort did not sit well with Charger Coach Josh Thompson.
“The defense was a disappointment,” Thompson said. “We worked all spring and summer to get better on defense after last season. Until players learn to do what they told and start making tackles, we are not going to be very good.”
The Charger offense was better, just like last year.
Glasson had 290 all-purpose yards. The senior rushed for 105 yards and had 31 receiving yards. He added 154 kickoff return yards.
Junior Clayton Brown hauled in nine passes for 85 yards with one touchdown.
Heide connected 19 of 36 passes for 158 yards and two touchdowns.
North Montgomery (0-1) will travel to Western (0-1) on Friday. Last Friday the Panthers lost 52-7 to Indian Creek.
