Plans for the upcoming Motocross of Nations race in October are progressing n a positive manner. That is the message from a recent community planning committee that is tasked with preparing for the Oct. 3-5 event.

The race is expected to draw 25,000 to 30,000 people, including international fans, who will attend the three-day event.

Local hotels are full for the race dates and all the area homes listed on the Air BnB website are reserved. It was reported as soon as someone lists their home, it is immediately being reserved by an upcoming guest.

Race Director Tim Cotter said all campgrounds are more than 80% reserved and he expects all will be at capacity during race weekend.

“Ticket sales are going good,” he said.

It was recently announced that area residents can purchase tickets for the Oct. 5 race at a discounted price. Several residents have taken advantage of the offer. To learn more about the discounted tickets, visit the MXON section on the City of Crawfordsville’s website.

There are 170 community volunteers currently signed up. More volunteers are welcome and if interested, visit the city’s website under the Events button.

“I think the volunteers are going to enjoy this experience of helping an international crowd,” Cotter said. “We will place people into spots where they can be a big help and really enjoy themselves.”

Local businesses, churches and organizations can sponsor an international team. These sponsors will help the teams by being community liaison. Hoosier Heartland State Bank is sponsoring the Australian team. To sponsor a team, visit the MXON section on the city’s website.

Security continues to be a focal point for organizers, not only at Ironman Raceway but also downtown Crawfordsville.

During the Oct. 3 parade, city dump and garbage trucks will be used to close side streets. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Crawfordsville Police Department and Indiana State Police will be providing security.

After the parade, Pike Place will host the MXON Oktoberfest featuring music, food, beverages and children’s games. The family-friendly event is expected to continue into the evening.

The Indiana Department of Transportation expects to have all roads open that lead into Crawfordsville. Projects will be completed or work suspended during race weekend.

A welcome center will be located at the National Guard Armory.

Local restaurants are encouraged to participate. Local eateries can sign up to deliver food orders for fans at a designated area near the track. Participating restaurants must apply for special passes. More information can be found on the MXON information on the city’s website.

The U.S. Air Force has agreed to provide a flyover during the national anthem on race day. The plane will be a C10 Cargo plane. The back door will be open and displaying American flags during the flyover.
