Post 72 competitive in weekend tourney

American Legion Byron Cox Post No. 72 posted a 3-2 record at a weekend tournament in Danville, Ill.

Post No. 72 beat Morris, Ill 5-4, Danville Jr. 10-3, and Sullivan 5-4, while falling to Shelby Co. Ill 6-0 and Danville, Ill 9-8.

In the win over Morris, recent Crawfordsville grad Henry Taylor Byron Cox with three hits, while Tri-West’s Matthew Harris and Clinton Prairie’s Landon Southern each had two hits. Fountain Central grad George Valencia pitched seven hitless innings, allowing a a pair of runs, while walking two and striking out 10.

Post 72 had eight hits in the blowout win over Danville Jr, with three hits and two RBI from Southern.  Taylor also drove in two runs. Southern picked up the pitching win in five innings of work.

Crawfordsville scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 2-0 deficit to down Sullivan thanks to a 3-RBI game from Southern and a pair of hits from Walker. Taylor earned the win from the mound.
