Teams compete in Mountie Invite

Leading the county at the Mountie Invitational on Saturday at the Crawfordsville County Club was North Montgomery. The Chargers recorded a score of 382 which put them in third place  Southmont’s Red team placed fourth and the gray team was eighth. Crawfordsville placed eighth.

The Chargers were led by Hadlie Horn’s 91. Other scores were Marlee Reed 93, Mallory Inskeep 96 and Izzy Hamby 102.

The Southmont Ladies golf teams placed fourth and eighth this past weekend in the 10-team Southmont Invitational. The red team shot a 394 while the gray team shot 483.

The red team was led by Maggie Gilliland’s 90. Other scores for the red team were Lanie Ramsey 100, Addison Kendricks and Emma Gleason, both 103, and Kaycee Perez 105.

The gray team was led by Harmony Norton’s 117 followed by Addison Anglin 120, Madi Biddle 121, Brita Cleek 125 and Jamie Buckler 135.

Crawfordsville finished in eighth place with a 483.

The Athenians scores were Claire Dennison 94, Serenity Wright 128, Naomi Sermesheim 130, Elizabeth Nunan 131.

Western Boone won the event with a score of 350.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Chargers handle Wildcats

North Montgomery defeated South Vermillion 7-1 on Saturday on the Charger pitch. The Chargers led 5-0 before the Wildcats got on the board midway through the second half.

Seven different Chargers scored in the game.

The Chargers (1-1-1) will open Monon Athletic Conference play Tuesday with a trip to North Putnam (1-1).

 

Mounties drop game to Cascade

Southmont lost to Cascade 7-1 on Saturday at Mountie Stadium.

No individual statistics were available.

The Mounties (1-2, 0-1 MAC) play at Crawfordsville on Thursday.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Chargers beat South Vermillion

North Montgomery defeated South Vermillion 13-0 on Saturday at home.

Charger Genesis Reyes scored four goals. Gracie Ratcliff scored two goals as did Courtney Bennett. Scoring one goal apiece was Savanah Ratcliff, Olivia Nuppnau, Colee Cunningham and Ava Leader.

Reyes’ four goals and five assists gave her a total of 13 offensive points in the game. Both the points and assists are school game records.

In the first three games this season, Reyes has scored a total of seven goals with seven assists.

The Chargers (3-0) will play Monon Athletic Conference foe North Putnam at home Tuesday.

 

Mounties beat Cascade

Southmont beat Cascade 4-0 Saturday. 

The Mounties got off to a slow start but scored four goals in the second half to finish the game. 

Molly Williams had three goals and Cali Hale had her first varsity goal with an assist from Madisen Bensen.

Southmont (2-1) will play Northview at home on Thursday.

 

Trojans down Athenians

Covington defeated Crawfordsville 5-2 Saturday on the Athenians’ home pitch.

Crawfordsville played Greencastle at home on Monday.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Chargers go 2-1 in invite

North Montgomery went 2-1 at Saturday’s North Putnam Invitational. The Chargers started the day with a 2-0 win (25-18, 25-14) win over University. The second game was a 1-2 (15-25, 25-20, 5-15) loss to Mooresville. In the final game the Chargers beat South Putnam 2-1 (25-19, 8-25, 19-17).

Leading North Montgomery on the day were 18 kills by Mallory Denham and Lilly Graham with 39 digs. Kate Merica had 65 assist and Paisley Gillan recorded four aces.

Using the tie breaker rules, the Chargers ended in a two-way tie for the championship.

The Chargers traveled Monday to Traders Point and will travel Tuesday to Monon Athletic Conference foe Frankfort.
