Chargers beat Mustangs

North Montgomery defeated Fountain Central 3-2 on Tuesday on the Charger home courts.

Charger No. 3 singles Cash Cole won his second match in a row. The freshman beat Preston Coakley 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles Elliott Allen beat Hayden Hargrave 6-4, 6-4 and No. 3 doubles of Alex Heisel and Korbin Lewis beat David Current and Jeremiah Norris 6-4, 6-2.

Mustang No. 1 singles William Armstrong beat Carter Thompson 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 and Fountain Central’s No. 1 doubles of Aiden Blankenship and Ayden Batchelor beat Kohen Bonebrake and Piersyn Joyce 6-3, 6-3.

The Chargers will play host Thursday to county and Monon Athletic Conference rival Southmont. 

 

Athenians move to 4-0

Crawfordsville remains unbeaten with a 4-0 record after a 3-2 win at Parke Heritage on Tuesday. The match was close as evidenced by four of the five matches going three sets.

Athenian wins were picked up by Kent Calvert at No. 3 singles who defeated Lucas Busenbark 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, Jayden Jimenez and Andrew McCoy at No. 1 doubles defeated Jackson Jenkins and Cian Todd 6-6 (4-7), 6-1, 6-2. Carter McDorman and Silan Hartnett at No. 2 doubles beat Warner Hopkins and Avery Hugg 6-2, 3-6, 3-6.

Wolves winning were No. 1 singles Joel Miller who beat Henry Bannon 6-4, 4-6, 3-6 and No. 2 singles Jayce Crosley defeated 6-6 (10), 6-3.

Crawfordsville will be back in action Thursday for their first Monon Athletic Conference matchup of the season against Frankfort at home.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Athenians down Riverton Parke

Crawfordsville defeated Riverton Parke 3-0 on Tuesday at home. Crawfordsville’s set wins were all down to the wire.

Set scores were 26-24, 27-25 and 25-23.

Athenian Reese Price had 24 kills in the match and Sydney Elizondo recorded 39 of the Athenian 40 assists. Alexis Ratcliff had 24 digs.

Next for Crawfordsville (3-3) will be an away match Monday at Lebanon.

 

Mustangs win WRC match

Fountain Central defeated Wabash River Conference rival Seeger 3-0 on Tuesday for the first time since 2016.

Game scores were 25-23, 25-22, 25-23.

Mustang Patience Bixler had nine kills and Aubrey Ashwill had six blocks. Cadence White recorded one assist and Citrus Wesley had 25 digs.

Fountain Central will entertain WRC foe Parke Heritage on Tuesday.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Teams compete at Harrison

County schools competed in the 18-team Harrison Champ at the Amp held at the Tippecanoe County Amphitheater.

In the boys’ meet, Crawfordsville senior Josh Inskeep completed the course in 16:50 to place fifth. North Montgomery junior Drew Dark was 12th with a time of 17:26. Charger sophomore Cooper Stephens placed 15th with a time of 17:35.

Dark’s time set a junior class school record and Stephens time tied the sophomore class record.

Top 20 girls finishers from the county were Crawfordsville’s Alea Seward 11th (21:30) and Charger Sarah Hopper (22:35).

Harrison won both the boys and girls meets. In the boys meet, the Chargers were fourth and Crawfordsville placed sixth. In the girls meet, North Montgomery and Crawfordsville placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

There were 244 entries in the boys meet and 195 runners competed in the girls race.

 

GOLF

Harrison beats North

North Montgomery lost Tuesday to Harrison 179-193 at Rocky Ridge Golf Club.

Charger scores were meet medalist Marlee Reed 43, Hadlie Horn 47, Izzy Hamby 48 and Mallory Inskeep 55.

 

Athenians lose three-way meet

Crawfordsville lost to Western Boone and Danville on Tuesday on their own Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course.

Team scores were Western Boone 185, Danville 210 and Crawfordsville 262.

Crawfordsville scores were Clarie Dennison 59, Samiyyah Hamilton 66, Karleigh Brown 68 and Naomi Sermersheim 69.

Crawfordsville will be at home again Thursday playing Seeger and Attica.

 

Mustang records personal best

Fountain Central’s two golfers competed Tuesday against South Vermillion and Covington at Crestview Golf Club.

Mustang Lilly Gregory shot a personal best 56 and Bella Bacon fired a 60.

South Vermillion defeated Covington.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Athenians beat Tiger Cubs

Crawfordsville came home with Monon Athletic Conference 3-0 victory over Greencastle on Tuesday.

No individual statistics were reported by the coaches.

 

Cougars shutout Chargers

North Montgomery lost 3-0 at North Putnam on Tuesday. All three Cougar goals were scored in the second half.

Coaches did not report any individual statistics.
