Patriots down Athenians
Crawfordsville lost Friday 5-0 at Seeger. The Athenians could only earn three hits in the game.
The Athenian offense has been stagnant the last three games scoring only one run.
Crawfordsville had one hit each from Hailli Omundson, Molly Pierce and Christina Susdorf which was a double.
Pierce had a good day on the mound. The senior surrendered just five hits and struck out seven. Seeger scored three earned runs.
Crawfordsville (3-20) played Monday at home against Monon Athletic Conference rival Frankfort 1-23, 0-12 MAC) and will play the Hot Dogs on Tuesday at home. The regular season is scheduled to close Thursday at home against Lebanon (5-14).
BASEBALL
Chargers go 2-1
North Montgomery completed a busy week over the weekend. The Chargers defeated No. 4 1A Rossville on Friday and split a doubleheader Saturday at Lebanon in between rain drops.
On Friday, the Chargers welcomed Rossville and defeated the Hornets 10-5.
North Montgomery trailed 5-1 after three innings, but a huge eight-run fifth frame sent the Chargers to the win.
North tallied seven hits in the fifth inning and benefited from four walks from two Hornet pitchers.
Chargers Lucky Young and Lincoln Heide each had three hits. Keaton Brown, Aiden Ambriz-Cruz, Jack Warren and Carter Thompson each had two hits.
Charger Keaton Brown got the win by pitching the last four innings holding the Hornets scoreless. The senior surrendered two hits while striking out four while facing 14 batters.
North Montgomery traveled Saturday to Lebanon and battled the Tigers and rain delays.
The first game started two hours after the original start time of 10 a.m. due to the weather but the Chargers prevailed 7-1.
Heide pitched five innings and gave up just one hit while striking out four. The Tigers scored their only run in the bottom of the third inning.
North Montgomery got the offense going and scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead for good. The Chargers added two runs in the seventh frame.
Brown was 2-for-2 with an RBI. T.J. Hinds had a 2-RBI double.
In the nightcap, Lebanon won 13-3 in five innings after scoring eight runs in a decisive fourth inning.
A tired North squad only mustered two hits in the game and used three pitchers who gave up 12 hits.
Warren had a 2-RBI single to help his team to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
North Montgomery (17-6, 8-4 MAC) was scheduled to play at Cascade (11-7, 9-3 MAC) on Monday and host the Cadets on Tuesday in a battle for first place in the Monon Athletic Conference.
Greencastle (17-4, 8-4 MAC) is also in the running to finish at the top of the MAC. The Tiger Cubs play North Putnam (6-16, 1-11 MAC) twice this week.
