BOYS SOCCER

Athenians get big win

For the first time in history, Crawfordsville defeated West Lafayette on the pitch. The home-standing Athenians won 2-1.

Athenians Dylan Figueroa and Dario Huesca each scored second half goals to secure the win. Huesca also had one assist.

Crawfordsville’s keeper Noe Torres had eight saves.

Crawfordsville (4-1) traveled Monday to South Vermillion.

 

South defeats Covington

Southmont boys soccer team defeated Covington 5-3 at home on Saturday. Landon Grimes scored four goals and Cooper Scott added one goal.

Southmont (1-5, 0-2 MAC) will travel Tuesday to county rival North Montgomery (2-3-1, 1-2 MAC).

 

Chargers beat Stars

North Montgomery got a Monon Athletic Conference win on Saturday at Western Boone. After leading 2-0 at halftime, the Chargers held on to win 3-2.

Coaches did not submit individual statistics.

North Montgomery (2-3-1, 1-2 MAC) will play host to county rival Southmont (1-5, 0-2 MAC) 7 p.m. Tuesday in a girl/boy doubleheader.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

Chargers earn MAC win

North Montgomery traveled Saturday to Monon Athletic Conference rival Western Boone and defeated the Stars 3-0.

Leading 1-0 at halftime, the Chargers added two more goals in the win.

Scoring for North were Olivia Nuppnau, Courtney Bennett and Colee Cunningham.

Genesis Reyes, Savannah Ratcliff and Bennett recorded assists.

Charger goalkeeper Addison Johnson had four saves.

The Chargers (4-0, 1-0 MAC) will play at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Southmont (3-1-1, 2-0 MAC).

 

Mounties tie Covington

Southmont and Covington played Saturday to 1-1 tie on the Mountie pitch.

Mountie Molly Williams scored her team’s lone goal. Goalkeeper Emily Simpson had nine saves.

Southmont (3-1-1, 2-0 MAC) will play at North Montgomery (4-0, 1-0 MAC) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in a boy/girl doubleheader.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Chargers go 1-2 in own Invite

North Montgomery played host to its annual invitational on Saturday and ended the day with a 1-2 record.

Individual Chargers records were No. 1 singles Carter Thompson 1-2, No. 2 singles Elliott Allen 1-2, Cash Cole 2-1, No. 1 doubles Peirsyn Joyce and Kohen Bonebrake 2-1. No. 2 doubles Korbin Lewis and Storm Schenck 1-0, Korbin Lewis and Kaden Grundy 0-1 and Owen Desmet and Alex Heisel 0-1.

Parke Heritage ended the day on top with a 3-0 record. Benton Central placed second with a 2-1 record and the Chargers went 1-2. South Vermillion ended the invitational 0-3.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Chargers compete at McCutcheon

North Montgomery’s boys and girls cross teams competed Saturday at the McCutcheon Stampede.

The girls’ team placed second and the boys placed third overall.

Top-15 performances for the girls included Sarah Hopper, fourth; Kaitlyn Kunz, 10th; and Remly Redden, 14th.

Top-15 boy runners were Drew Dark, fifth; and Cooper Stephens, seventh.
