MAC championship results
Western Boone won the Monon Athletic Conference Championship played Saturday at the Crawfordsville Country Club by shooting a 355.
Southmont placed second with a score of 378 and North Montgomery finished third by carding a 387. Crawfordsville shot their way to a fifth place finish with a score of 476.
Mountie scores were Lanie Ramsey 89, Emma Gleason 92, Addison Kendricks 96 and Maddie Gilliland 102.
Mountie Coach Bill Whalen was pleased with his team. He said the difference was his team “shot very well on the back nine.”
Charger scores were Marlee Reed 92, Hadlie Horn 92, Izzy Hamby 99 and Kenly Deener 104.
Athenian scores were Claire Dennison 104, Samyyah Hamilton 123, Serenity Wright 123 and Naomi Semersheim 126.
First Team MAC members from Southmont were Ramsey, Gleason and Kendricks. North Montgomery all MAC players were Reed, Horn and Hamby.
Western Boone’s Ally Lewis fired a 76 earning her medalist of the meet for the Stars who have won three conference championships (1-SAC, 2-MAC) in a row.
Team results were 1. Western Boone 355, 2. Southmont 378, 3. North Montgomery 387, 4. Cascade 459, 5. Crawfordsville 476, 6. North Putnam 476 and 7. Greencastle 499. Frankfort did not have a complete team.
WRC championship results
South Vermillion claimed the Wabash River Conference golf championship on Saturday with a score of 415. Seeger placed second with 432 and Parke Heritage carded a 449 to place third. Fountain Central had an incomplete team.
Top eight golfers were Emilee Rice (Covington) 95, Aliyah Dean (Covington) 100, Megan Suchaczewski (Seeger) 101, Bailey Dowdy (South Vermillion) 102, Madi Lund (South Vermillion) 103, Jenna Newnum (Parke Heritage) 103, Callie Anderson (Seeger)104 and Alicia Guinn (South Vermillion) 104.
Mustangs Bella Bacon shot a 106 and Lilly Gregory scored 116.
FOOTBALL
Mustangs earn first win
Fountain Central played host to arch rival Covington on Friday and earned their first win of the season. Fountain Central defeated the Trojans 44-8 in the Wabash River Conference victory.
The Mustangs got the win from a yeoman’s effort from their backup quarterback Tucker Ashwill. The 5-6, 120 pound sophomore completed 3-of-6 passes for 118 yards. The speedster also ran nine times for 87 yards with a touchdown. He threw a touchdown to senior Asher Davis.
After leading after one quarter 8-0, the Mustangs scored 22 points in the second half.
The Mustangs eventually led 44-0 at the end of the third quarter before Covington scored in the fourth quarter.
Covington’s freshman quarterback Cooper McLaughlin connected on 8-of-16 passes for 82 yards.
Fountain Central held the Trojans to 26 yards rushing.
Fountain Central (1-3, 1-1 WRC) will travel to conference rival Attica (1-3, 0-2 WRC) on Friday. Covington (1-3, 0-2 WRC) will head to South Vermillion (2-2, 1-1 WRC) on Friday.
VOLLEYBALL
Mustangs compete at West Vigo
Fountain Central finished 0-2 on Saturday at the West Vigo Invitational. The Mustangs lost to Shakamak and Riverton Parke by identical 2-0 scores.
Set scores versus the Lakers were 17-25 and 14-25. Scores against the Wildcats were not reported.
Fountain Central (3-6) played Traders Point Christian (4-4) on Monday.
Athenians split at Invite
Crawfordsville competed in the West Vigo Invitational and finished the day 1-1.
Crawfordsville beat the host 2-0 and lost to Shakamak 0-2.
Scores against West Vigo were 25-17 and 26-24. Scores against Shakamak were 7-25 and 13-25.
Crawfordsville (8-7) traveled to Lafayette Central Catholic (11-5) on Monday.
TENNIS
Chargers beat Lebanon
North Montgomery traveled to Lebanon and defeated the Tiger 3-2.
Winning for North were No.1 singles Carter Thompson over Brayden Adams 6-3, 6-1. No. 3 singles Cash Cole beat Kai Burcham 6-2, 6-4.
The Chargers’ No. 2 doubles team secured the win with scores of 7-6 (1), 6-3 over David Havlin and Josh Gulley.
Other Charger scores were No. 2 singles Elliott Allen lost 6-7 (5), 3-6, 6-10. No. 1 doubles of Piersyn Joyce and Kohen Bonebrake lost 2-6, 3-6 against to Leo Johnson and Jason Garrard.
The Chargers played Monday at county rival Crawfordsville.
GIRLS SOCCER
Danville beats Athenians
Crawfordsville lost 5-0 at Danville on Saturday.
All of Danville’s scores came in the first half.
“The second half score was 0-0, so we got it together much better,” Athenian Coach Brandon Rash said.
The Athenians (5-3-1, 3-0 MAC) played Monday at rival North Montgomery (6-3, 1-2 MAC).
