VOLLEYBALL

Athenians shut out Chargers

Crawfordsville played host Thursday to county and Monon Athletic Conference rival North Montgomery. The Athenians rolled and beat the Chargers 3-0.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-11, 25-15.

The Athenians were led by Reese Price who had 15 kills and Caroline Bowling who had 10 kills. Alexis Ratcliff had 19 of the team’s 55 digs. Sydney Elizondo recorded 29 of the team’s 32 assists.

North Montgomery did not report individual statistics for their players.

Crawfordsville (11-8, 2-2 MAC) will play Tuesday at Southmont (5-6, 2-4 MAC) for a chance to repeat as county champions. North Montgomery (5-8, 0-5 MAC) will play Saturday in the West Vigo Invitational.

 

Mounties beat Red Ramblers

Southmont played host Thursday to Attica and won 3-0.

Scores were 25-7, 25-9, 25-3.

Mountie Ella Barry had 13 kills and four aces.

Mounties Kaylee Turner and Claire Peacock each served seven aces.

Peacock added 21 assists.

The Mounties (6-6) are playing Saturday in the Gibson Southern Invitational.

 

Trojans sweep Mustangs

Covington stayed on a roll within the Wabash River Conference with a 3-0 win over county rival Fountain Central.

Set scores were 25-15, 25-15, 25-8.

Mustang Chloe Ayers led her team with four blocks.

Fountain Central (4-8, 2-3 WRC) will play Monday at Frontier. Covington (16-3, 5-0 WRC) plays Saturday in the Lafayette Jefferson Invitational.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Athenians defeat Cougars

Crawfordsville played Monon Athletic Conference foe North Putnam on Thursday at home. The Athenians won 3-1.

Crawfordsville led 2-1 at halftime and added a score in the second half.

No game statistics were reported by Crawfordsville coaches.

Crawfordsville (10-1, 5-1 MAC) plays Saturday at Northview. North Putnam (8-3, 3-2 MAC) is playing host Saturday to Owen Valley (3-6-2).

 

GIRLS SOCCER

North beats Frankfort

North Montgomery played Thursday at Monon Athletic Conference rival Frankfort. The Chargers defeated the Hot Dogs 6-0.

The Charger offense scored three goals in each half in the victory.

Charger Genesis Reyes scored three goals and Courtney Bennett added two scores. Emma Davis had a lone goal.

Six Chargers, Reyes, Bennett, Claire Cunningham, Scarlette Hamm, Katie Whittinghill and Gracie Ratcliff each recorded an assist.

Goalkeepers Addison Johnson and Genevieve Schultz combined for the shut out of Frankfort.

North Montgomery (7-4, 2-3 MAC) will play Monday at Cascade (0-8, 0-3 MAC).

 

TENNIS

Trojans defeat Mounties

Covington defeated Southmont 4-1 Thursday on the Mounties’ home courts.

The Mounties lone win came when No. 2 singles Ethan Hutchison defeated Sabie Gerling 7-5, 1-6, 10-3.

Other scores were No. 1 singles Eden Hernandez lost to Easton Alexander 6-7 (4-7), 2-6. No. 3 singles Mason Clouse lost to Rowen Poer 4-6, 2-6.

The Mountie No. 1 doubles team of Andrew Badentcher and Ben Gruele lost to Michael Wheeling and Jude Strauser 0-6, 0-6. The No. 2 doubles team of Job Bradley and Owen Grimes were defeated by Laken Shuman and Nathan Webster 1-6, 5-7.

The Mounties will play Saturday at Crawfordsville in the Monon Athletic Conference Tournament.

 

Athenians win at Tri-West

Crawfordsville traveled Thursday to Tri-West and won 4-0-1.

Due to darkness, the No. 2 doubles team of Silas Hartnett and Carter McDorman’s match was called with the score tied 2-2.

The Athenians swept four matches.

No. 1 singles Henry Bannon defeated Eric Dean 6-2, 6-0. No. 2 singles Jordan Archer beat Wyatt McMillan 7-5, 6-3 and No. 3 singles Kent Calvert beat Connor Smith 6-2, 7-5.

Crawfordsville’s No. 1 doubles team of Jayden Jimeniz and Andrew McCoy defeated Michael Gibson and Kyle Dean 7-5, 6-4.

Crawfordsville will play host Saturday to the Monon Athletic Conference Tournament.

 

Chargers lose at Seeger

Home standing Seeger defeated North Montgomery 4-1 on Thursday.

The Chargers win was earned when No. 1 singles Carter Thompson defeated Macyn Hughes 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Other scores were No. 2 singles Elliott Allen lost to Hayden Rickey 4-6, 4-6 and No. 3 singles Cash Cole lost to Cayden Grimmett 2-6, 4-6.

The Charger’s No. 1 doubles team of Piersyn Joyce and Kohen Bonebrake lost to Zach Reynolds and Prestyn Hughes 6-1, 6-0 and the No. 2 doubles team of Owen DeSmet and Kaden Grundy lost 6-0, 6-0.

The Chargers will compete Saturday Monon Athletic Conference Tournament.

 

Mustangs blank Attica

Fountain Central beat county rival Attica 5-0 on Thursday.

Mustangs’ No. 1 singles Ayden Batchelor defeated Caden Ashley 6-1, 6-2 and No. 2 singles William Armstrong beat Blake Inman 6-1, 6-2. No. 3 singles Hayden Hargrave defeated Cullen Driver 6-1, 6-0.

The Mustang No. 1 doubles team of Aiden Blankenship and Eli Sowder won over Micah Pawlak and Ayden Britt 6-2, 6-0 and the No. 2 doubles team of Preston Coakley and David Current beat Joe Shoaf and Elijah Lathrop 6-3, 7-6 (2).

The Mustangs will host Western Boone on Tuesday.
